J. David Singh

Senior Pastor

David was born in India and grew up in a Christian military family. As a child, he lived mostly among people of other faiths and had little access to the church or Christian teaching. However, his parents instilled a basic sense of the presence of God and set an example through regular family prayer. At age 19, while attending an Anglican Church, he made a personal confession of faith in Jesus Christ. Soon after school and in the middle of being selected for the Indian Air Force, he sensed the call of God to be in the pastoral ministry.

David completed his M.Div. in Theology at Serampore University, India. David was ordained in the Diocese of Madras, The Church of South India, in 1977 and served in Anglican, Methodist and Presbyterian congregations. It was during his first call and while he was quite sick that he had an experience of anointing in the Holy Spirit and healing. After this experience his passion and gifting for evangelism, preaching and teaching became more evident. While serving as a pastor of these parishes he and his wife launched an evangelistic ministry of music and drama with young people. He also served as the National Chaplain for Faith & Light, a ministry of L’Arche in India that teaches churches to include the mentally disabled in the main worshipping life of the church.

In 1988 he went to Princeton Theological Seminary for training in Practical Theology. After completing a Th.M. degree he was accepted into a Ph.D. program. He completed the coursework and did his research on movements toward unity between mainline churches and free churches which promote the cause of mission and evangelism. Along with his Ph.D. program, he specialized in family therapy and was certified in contextual family therapy. David then spent four years in Perth, Australia, serving with the Uniting Church in Australia as a lecturer and head of the Department of Practical Theology at Murdoch University.

In 1998, sensing a call of God to be more missional, he accepted a call from Third Presbyterian Church, Richmond, and served for five years as the Missions and Family Ministries Pastor. In September 2003, Third’s leadership commissioned him to start Eternity Church.

In 2003 David and his wife, Nalini, were invited by a national Board of Directors to found Inspire International, an organization with a call to share the love of Jesus with the most unreached peoples in India and the world. David is also President of The Oaks Ministry, a Richmond-based non-profit that is committed to fulfilling the mandate of Jesus to heal the sick, cast out demons and proclaim the kingdom of God. After 40 years of ministry spanning three continents, David finds Jesus Christ to be relevant in the 21st century, regardless of culture or location.
